# Voices

> Our voices by language, and OpenAI voice names

* `voice` takes the `id` or the name, without regard to case or accents (`"Lucía"`, `"lucia"`, `"LUCIA"` are the same voice).
* OpenAI names also work. Female: `alloy`, `coral`, `nova`, `sage`, `shimmer`, `marin`. Male: `ash`, `ballad`, `echo`, `fable`, `onyx`, `verse`, `cedar`. They select a voice of that gender in the language.
* An unknown name gives the default voice; an unknown custom voice id answers `404`. `X-Voice` says which voice was used.
